Assisted Intubation Device

Senior Capstone Project

Overview

Objective

Continue improving on a device that addresses the need for a rapid intubation device that can be used in a combat-adjacent environment by untrained personnel

Process

Utilized waterfall methodology to breakdown the device into components with realistic goals

Designed each component with CAD through parametric design

Transferred CAD into GD&T drawings in order to manufacture the device with 3D printing and laser cutting

Result

The prototype was able to steer an intubation tube forward with a 360° range of bending motion, which will allow the user to bend the tube easily into someone’s throat

The device’s size was 40% smaller than the previous year’s design and was able to be controlled with one hand (rather than two hands and a computer)
